Yuan Qui et al. (2022) set out to characterise genetic heterogeneity across different types of lung lesions caused by cancer. To do so, they used targeted sequencing with the DNBSEQ™ sequencing platform on 508 genes, obtaining mutations in 224 of them. They therefore focused on investigating mutations in the ‘driver’ genes that characterise pulmonary adenocarcinoma, the most common cancer. They identified mutations in the EGFR gene, at codons p.L858R and a deletion in exon 19. They also found mutations in the ‘driver’ genes TP53, BRAF, ERBB2, MET and PIK3CA. Qiu Yuan et al. (2022). Intratumor heterogeneity of driver mutations and TMB distribution in 30 early-stage LUAD patients with multiple lesions. Frontiers in Oncology, Volume 12.
